We Have a Theatre on the Mountain… Ever since its inception, U Theatre has set its base in Laochuan Mountain Theatre, which is an hour’s drive from Taipei City. Every morning, the members of U Theatre come here from all over Taipei to attend training sessions and rehearsals. The yearly production of U Theatre always premieres in this outdoor theatre on the mountain with a seating capacity of five hundred. Every day, the performers of U Theatre come to the mountain to practice Tai-chi, take martial arts lessons, practice drumming and, most important of all, to meditate. They may have different religious beliefs, but they value meditation as much as monks do. Through the introspection of meditation, the U-people try to maintain their inner peace in a world of chaos and confusion. They also believe that their inner peace can be communicated to the audience during performance.
