| Integrating
the Tao and Art At their creative headquarters atop Laochuan Hill, surrounded by the bustling metropolis of Taipei, Taiwan, members of U-Theatre devote themselves to enriching the spirit and mastering ever more complex percussion skills. Ruoyu Liu and a close-knit group of performance artists formed U-Theatre on Laochuan Hill in 1988. Today, members maintain a strict daily training regimen that includes a full menu of martial arts, meditation, percussion practice, and Tai Chi. The comparative rigors of U-Theatre training gives troupe members levels of stamina, energy, and personal well-being unmatched by other performance troupes. An intricate, highly refined style of performance is an ideal to which U-Theatre has held true throughout its 15-year existence As the group has matured, it has gradually melded into their performance the two themes of the search for the meaning of existence and the integration of art into life.U-Theatre has been a welcome participant at numerous international art festivals. |
